Madathil Sree Bhagavathy Temple Kattakkada

History

This temple is at Kattakada, Balaramapuram, in Thiruvananthapuram district. This is one of the few temples in Kerala with a Kannadi idol. It is believed to be around 800 years old. In ancient times, it was the house of brahmins and the Goddess was worshipped by them. Later, it came to be in the possession of a family known as Moonnaam veedu. They were conducting poojas, but the temple had become dilapidated. Some repairs were done. In 2005, an astrological consultation was held, and the temple was renovated. At that time, platforms were made for the subordinate deities Ganapathy, Sasthav, Murugan, Sivamsham, and Naga. Later, more separate sancta were constructed for the subordinate deities. After astrological consultations in 2014, the main sanctum was reconstructed, and re-consecration was performed in 2017. The reconsecration day is celebrated on the day of star Pooyam in the month of Kumbham. Navarathri and the Mandala period are also celebrated.
