Neeleswaram Mahadevar Darmasastha Temple

History

This temple is in Kottarakara, Kollam district. The name Neeleswaram is believed to be a shortened form of Neelakandeswaram, which derives from the consecration of Lord Mahadeva as Neelakanda after consuming the poison that emerged when the Milky Ocean was churned. Lord Sastha is also consecrated with equal importance here. While Lord Mahadeva faces the west, Lord Sastha faces the east. Goddess Parvathy and Ganapathy are consecrated as subordinate deities. Nagaraja, Nagayakshi, Madan Swamy, Bhoothathan and Brahmarakshass are also present in the temple. The annual festival is in the month of Meenam, scheduled in such a way that Pallivetta will fall on more the day of the star Uthram. Dhara, Pooja on one’s birthday, Neerajanam, and Ellu payasam are the main offerings.
