Perumudiyoor Siva Temple, located at Perumudiyur in Palakkad district, is an ancient and more than 500 years old temple dedicated to Lord Siva, who is worshipped here as a Swayambhoo (self-manifested) deity. The temple is a prominent spiritual centre in the region and is known for its serene atmosphere and rich traditions of worship. In addition to the presiding deity, the temple houses several sub-deities, including Okathu Ganapathy, Lord Ayyappa, Narasimhamoorthy, and Sivan, making it a sacred destination for devotees seeking divine blessings and spiritual solace. The temple observes numerous religious festivals and special rituals throughout the year. more Maha Shivaratri is celebrated with great devotion and attracts a large number of devotees. During the Malayalam month of Karkidakam, the temple conducts daily Ramayana Parayanam, fostering a deep spiritual environment. The last Sunday of Karkidakam is marked by special rituals such as Maha Ganapathi Homam, Bhagavatha Seva, and Aishwarya Pooja. Navaratri is another important occasion, during which Navaratri Vilakku is lit every day, and special ceremonies, including Pusthaka Pooja and Vijayadashami celebrations, are conducted with great fervour. The month of Vrischikam is dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, with 41 days of Ayyappa Pooja being observed in accordance with traditional customs. A unique feature of the temple is the Akhanda Nama Nritha Yajnam, which has been conducted continuously for the past 46 years on the second Saturday of Vrischikam, reflecting the unwavering faith and devotion of the local community. The present grandeur and well-maintained condition of the temple are the result of the dedicated efforts of the Perumudiyoor Siva Kshethra Punaruddharana Committee, which undertook the renovation and restoration of the temple, preserving its spiritual heritage for future generations. Agni Shthomasoma Yagama was held near the temple in April 2016.
