This temple is at Seethathode, in
Pathanamthitta. This temple, believed to be more than 2000 years old, is in the
middle of a forest. Legends say that Lord Parasurama prayed to Mahadeva and
consecrated the deity here. The Shivalinga consecrated here has been there since the
Dwapara Yuga. Lord Sree Rama is believed to have come here and offered worship.
There are many places here whose names are connected with Sita, Lava and Kusha
as well as the Pandavas. The place was
discovered in the 1940s by someone who had gone into the forest. At first, people lit a lamp. Then, in the year
more
1995, the temple was built. Today, the main sanctum on the ancient base houses the Shivalinga. Ganapathy, Subrahmanyan, Sree Parvathy, Brahmarakshass and Nagaraja are
consecrated as subordinate deities. There is a platform dedicated to the
mountains where people offer agricultural produce. There is a huge pond here in
which water is available throughout the year. Now the temple is open for
worship on the 1st of every Malayalam month. Sivarathri is the most
important celebration here. Legends say that the temple is connected with the
Pandalam royal family, too. The temple can be reached from Thekkuthottil by
travelling 2km via Thumbakulam. From Gurunathanmannu in Seethatodu, one has to
travel 6km through the forest.
