This temple is at Ayyanthole in Thrissur. Lord
Mahavishnu, as Varahamoorthy, with Lakshmidevi in his lap, calmed down after
retrieving the earth from Hiranyaksha, and is the main deity consecrated here. In earlier times, farmers and the local brahmins used to worship here for
better yield and all prosperity. The place got the name Pannimkulangara from Panni,
Varaha, the boar whose form the Lord took to bring the earth from the nether
world. The ancient temple pond is also famous. It is believed that it was
Vilwamangalath Swamiyar who found the effulgence in the area and consecrated
Varahamoorthy here. The members of the Kollangodu
more
royal family that ruled the
areas on the border of Palakkad and Thrissur were great devotees of
Varahamoorthy. They built the temple and were the patrons for the management of
the temple for a long time. Ashtamirohini and Navarathri are celebrated here.
