Manchallur Sree Krishna Temple

History

This temple is at Pathanapuram, Manchallur, in Kollam district. Manchallur is said to have got its name from being the spot where the Kings rested while being carried in palanquins (Manchal in Malayalam). The temple is to the west of this junction. According to legends, a sanyasi came to Manchallur on 4th May, 1958. The people welcomed him and built a hermitage for him in the compound owned by Parameswarath Krishnapilli. A photo of Lord Krishna was placed there a few days later, and people started gathering there for bhajans. In an astrological consultation, it was revealed that the place more where they had built the hermitage was once the location of a temple. An idol of Lord Krishna with four hands was recovered from that spot. Soon, the sanyasi disappeared from there, but the worship continued. Rituals during the Mandalam were started in 1964, and the construction of a temple in the compound was also started. It was completed in 1961. Later, Ganapathy, Mahalakshmi, and Nagaraja were consecrated as subordinate deities. Renovation of the temple has started
