Uppalakandy Sree Badrakali Temple

History

This temple is at Koyilandy in Kozhikode district. It is believed that a family that came from Uppala in the north brought the Bhagavathy and consecrated her here. The temple was under the family for a long time. Around 25 years ago, it was given to the Araya Samajam, formed with 250 families as members. Then the temple was renovated. The main deity is Goddess Bhadrakali with Vasoorimala, Nagaraja, Gulikan, Pottan Daivam and Muthappan as subordinate deities. There is the practice of taking turmeric, pepper and money contributed by all the families to Kodungaloor Bhagavathy temple and offering it to the Vassoorimala there. The more annual festival is for ten days beginning on the 10th of Meenam. Devotees believe that the goddess protects them from dreaded diseases like Smallpox and Chickenpox.
