Mattannur Sree Mahadeva Temple is a renowned and
ancient Siva temple in Kannur district, dedicated to Lord Siva in Dhakshinamoorthy
sankalpam and revered as one of the 108 Siva temples of Kerala. Believed to
have been consecrated by Parashurama, the temple is a major spiritual centre
where devotees seek blessings for prosperity, health, knowledge, and
well-being. The temple’s annual festival, observed during Kumbham, is famous
for traditional rituals such as Thidambu Nritham, theru procession, and Arattu,
attracting large numbers of devotees every year. The temple also has
sub-deities, including Ganapathy, Ayyappa, Bhoothathan, and Naga, along with an
independent Vishnu shrine within the temple complex.
