This ancient temple is located in Thrikkalathoor, Ernakulam district. It is on the Moovattupuzha – Perumbavoor route. Lord Sree
Rama is the main deity consecrated here, facing east. Lord Dharma Shastha is
also consecrated with equal importance. The consecration of Sree Rama is
believed to have been made by Sage Agasthya. The temple pond here is believed
to have been the sage's sacrificial pit. Lord Sree Rama is consecrated as
he appeared before Khara with the crescent moon on his head, indicating the Shaivite presence. He is depicted with
four arms and matted hair. There is an ancient banyan tree in the temple
compound,
more
which is mentioned in the Thottam Pattu, which mentions 108 Ayappa
temples in Kerala. This is also the only temple with the consecration of
Hanuman. Ganapathy, Bhagavathy, Dakshinamoorthy, Sasathavu, Hanuman, Nagayakshy
and Rakshass are the subordinate deities. The temple belonged to 4 brahmin families. With the land ceiling act in
force, they found it difficult to run the temple. It was taken over by the
Ayyappa Seva Sangham, who left it with the village officer. The local devotees
made a committee under Thrikkalathoor Sree Ramaswamy Temple Seva Samithy and
took over the management of the temple. The temple is famous for having
conducted Archana with the three Vedas. The annual festival is celebrated for
eight days to end on the day of the star Thiruvonam in the month of Makaram.
