This
temple is at Chenkal in Thiruvananthapuram. This area was occupied by farmers, and there was a Kalam where they used to gather. An old lady of the village saw
two betalnuts floating on the water when she came to have a bath one evening.
She took them with her when she went home and cut one to chew with betel
leaves. Blood oozed from it, and the frightened lady kept them in her prayer
room. That night, Goddess Bhadrakali appeared before her and revealed that it
was the Goddess
more
who had come as the betel nut. The next morning, the eldest male
member of the family took both the nuts and kept them under the banyan tree at
the Kalam. People started lighting lamps and praying to the goddess there.
Later, a temple was built, and regular worship started.
