Sree Porkkorikkal Bhagavathy Temple

History

Sree Porkkorikkal Bhagavathy Kshetram, also known as Perimbadari Pothozhikavu Temple, is a revered shrine located at Perimbadari near Mannarkkad in Palakkad district, Kerala. Situated on the serene banks of the Kunthi River, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy, with the divine presence believed to embody Vana Durga. The main sanctum, a chathura sreekovil, is unique in that it lacks a roof, which adds to the temple’s distinct spiritual character. The annual prathishta dinam is observed in the Malayalam month of Kumbham, while the vibrant Thalappoli festival is celebrated in Edavam (May - June). The temple hosts various important rituals and offerings, including Annadanam, Guruthi Pooja, Ganapathy more Homam, Chuttuvilakku, Pongala Thalappoli, and Arattu. The festival is marked by traditional grandeur, featuring caparisoned elephants, melam, Thira, ezhunnallathu, and other classical performing arts of Kerala. In addition, Navarathri and Thrikarthika are also observed here with devotion, making the temple a significant centre of cultural and spiritual activity in the region.
