This
temple is at Kattakada in Thiruvananthapuram. It was once a thick forest, and
even today it remains filled with trees and other vegetation. Before one enters
the temple, there is a platform under an Ashoka tree where Mahalakshmi is
consecrated. The idol of Ganapathy, Yakshi and the broken remains of a figure
of an elephant can also be seen here. The sanctum is in the form of a square
Mullapanthal with the top remaining open. The remains of the old structure are
still there. The self-originated stone holding the effulgence

of Dharma Sastha
can be seen in front, with an idol of Ayyappa holding a bow and arrows behind it.
Some figures of Buddhist Bhikshus seen carved on the wall of the sanctum speak
of the Buddhist influence which was seen before the sixth century. The temple is
under the Travancore Devaswom Board with a committee of devotees to help in the
management. The Mandala period is celebrated for 41 days, with Aazhi puja one day.
The annual festival is in the month of Meenam from the day of star Punartham to
star Uthram. There is Brahmarakshas consecrated outside. It is believed that it
represents the first priest of this temple
