This
temple is at Thengana, near Changanassery in Kottayam. It is an ancient
temple and has been mentioned in the Unnuneeli Sandesham of the 14th century.
It is mentioned as a forest area at that time. The remains of two older structures
can be seen here. The sanctum, constructed with sculptures in laterite stone, is
unique. Lord Mahadeva is the main deity consecrated here. Ganapathy, Sastha,
Nagaraja and Nagayakshy are the subordinate deities. The Lord is
worshipped as Ardhanareeswaran as well as the Thrimoorthy of Brahma, Vishnu and
Maheswara.
