Perungottukavu Bhagavathy Temple, also known as Perungottukavu Devi Temple, is situated in Elavanchery near Kollengode in Palakkad district. The presiding deity is Bhadrakali, and the temple is notable as one of the few Kali temples in Kerala where the idol faces north. It is believed to be over 500 years old. According to local tradition, the temple’s origin traces back centuries when a man named Peringottan was transporting bamboo from Thenmala along the banks of the Ikshumati River. During the journey, the cart suddenly became unusually heavy, raising suspicion among those present. When they sought clarification from local authorities, it was revealed that the divine presence of

Later, during the Zamorin's rule, which conquered parts of Palakkad and made Karimpuzha his capital, administrative authority was entrusted to the Eralpad. On a visit to Perungottukavu, the Eralpad experienced the goddess’s divine presence and became a devotee. He then arranged for Brahmins to conduct proper rituals and relocated the deity from its original place to the base of a fig tree, where the temple stands today. Over time, a formal structure was built at this site to enshrine the goddess
