This
is the temple of the family deity of Kavalappara Mooppil Nair and is situated
adjacent to the palace. It is on the Ottapalam - Shornur route, on the way from
Koonathara to Kavalappara. The round sanctum is built of granite stone. Lord
Siva, in the self-originated form with Parvathy Devi, is consecrated here. There
is Ganapathy inside the temple complex and Maha Vishnu outside, consecrated in a
separate sanctum with equal importance. There is also Lord Sastha with Prabha
and Sathyaka. Subrahmanya is also consecrated in another sanctum. The word
Eruppa
more
refers to fertile soil, and the Mooppil Nair used to meet the expenses of
the temple, as there were no lands assigned to the temple. The annual festival
is for eight days from the first of Medam. The first Monday of every Malayalam
month and the Mandala period are observed with special poojas. Ashtamirohini is
also celebrated in the Maha Vishnu temple.
