Eruppe Siva Temple Palakkad

History

This is the temple of the family deity of Kavalappara Mooppil Nair and is situated adjacent to the palace. It is on the Ottapalam - Shornur route, on the way from Koonathara to Kavalappara. The round sanctum is built of granite stone. Lord Siva, in the self-originated form with Parvathy Devi, is consecrated here. There is Ganapathy inside the temple complex and Maha Vishnu outside, consecrated in a separate sanctum with equal importance. There is also Lord Sastha with Prabha and Sathyaka. Subrahmanya is also consecrated in another sanctum. The word Eruppa more refers to fertile soil, and the Mooppil Nair used to meet the expenses of the temple, as there were no lands assigned to the temple. The annual festival is for eight days from the first of Medam. The first Monday of every Malayalam month and the Mandala period are observed with special poojas. Ashtamirohini is also celebrated in the Maha Vishnu temple.
