Erayamcode Sree Mahavishnu Temple is an ancient, renowned, and spiritually significant temple situated in Erayamcode village, under Aruvikkara Panchayat in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. A sacred river, the Karamana River, flows through this village before reaching the sea. It originates from Agastyarkoodam (Agastyaparvata), a region rich in medicinal plants and associated with the penance of Sage Agastya. From its origin to its confluence with the sea, the river flows eastward, and the temple is located on its left bank, offering a serene and picturesque setting. The main deity of the temple is Lord Maha Vishnu, represented by a four-armed idol carved from Krishna stone. The idol holds a
more lotus in one hand and the conch and discus in the other, with the sacred Srivatsam mark engraved on the right side - one of its unique features. An inscription in the old Malayalam script on the temple’s sopanam (steps) was translated by the temple committee in 1963. This revealed that the temple was consecrated on March 7, 1185 AD. Later, in 1990, a Tantric ritual conducted by a renowned Namboothiri, a Prasna Jyothishan and Tantri, confirmed that the temple is over 850 years old, with the idol believed to be even older. Further developments and renovations of the temple were undertaken in 1995.
