This temple is at Kothamangalam in Ernakulam
district. This is one of the 108 famous
Siva temples in Kerala and is believed to be the last one where Lord Parasurama
performed the consecration. Lord Parasurama invited the brahmins to come and
settle in Kerala, which was created from the sea. He built 108 Siva temples, 108 Durga temples,
5 Sastha temples and a few Vishnu temples for their worship. He is believed to
have disappeared at the temple pond after performing the consecration. Hence, pujas are conducted at this spot for him. He promised to come back when the
Brahmins he had settled there
more
needed him. The temple is on the northern banks of
the Kothayar, a branch of the Muvatupuzhayar, to the north west of the
town. Lord Siva, as Vaidyanatha, is the
main deity consecrated here. Parvathy
Devi is also believed to be ever-present here with Lord Ganapathy. Sapthamathrukkal, Veerabhadran, Parasuraman, Sastha, Nagadaivangal, and
Yakshiyamma are the subordinate deities. Vanadurga and Annapoorneswari are
consecrated nearby in separate temples. The annual festival begins on the 1st
of Meenam and lasts for ten days. Sivarathri in the month of Kumbham and
Thiruvathira in the month of Dhanu are the other important days of this temple.
The temple is under the Travancore Devaswam Board.
