This temple is at Bharathanoor, Pangod, Thiruvananthapuram. Lord Mahasiva is the main deity consecrated here. It is believed to be more than a thousand years old. It is believed that Bharathamuni, the author of the ancient treatise, Natyashasthram, lived here, and hence the place was named after him. The place was inhabited by Brahmins, and many of the names of the streets are associated with them. It is also associated with Mahabali and known as Mavelikonam. Another area is known as Ramaraseri, associated with Sree Rama. A lower area is known as Vantikitakkumpoyka, as a wheel of a chariot is believed to be more there. All this proves that it was inhabited by Rishis in ancient times. Parasurama is believed to have consecrated this temple as one of the 108 thus built. The old temple had been destroyed, and two generations ago, an elephant had destroyed the idol here; what we worship now is the new idol consecrated there. The idol, the Sivalinga, is more than 5 feet tall and the tallest such consecration in Kerala. Goddess Parvathy and Lord Parameswara are consecrated in the same sanctum, facing east and west. Sastha, Ganapathy, Naga and Brahmarakshass are consecrated as subordinate deities. The annual festival is for Sivarathri
