Suryachira Siva Parvathi Temple Puthussery

History

This temple is in Pudussery, Palakkad. It is believed to be 1000 years old. The temple is unique as Lord Siva and Goddess Parvathy are consecrated here in the same sanctum, facing west. Hence, it is considered especially important for securing the blessing of good marriages and a happy married life. The temple once belonged to the Vadakke Mannadiyar family. Now it is managed by a committee of devotees. Lord Vishnu is also consecrated with equal importance. Ganapathy and Subrahmanyan are consecrated as subordinate deities. Serpents are also consecrated. A new sanctum for Ayyappa with Poorna and Pushkala has also been constructed recently after more astrological consultations. Pradosham is observed with all rituals and attracts a lot of devotees. It is believed that at one time the temple was surrounded by water. Now there is a river and a temple pond. Devotees offer obsequies to the deceased ancestors at this Chira on the no moon day in the month of Karkidakam. Maha Sivarathri and Thiruvathira are also celebrated with festivities.
