Karthyayani Bhagavathy Temple Arangottukara

History

This temple is at Arangottukara, a border village between the Trichur and Palakkad districts. It is believed to be 1500 years old. The temple is unique as no idol is consecrated here. The belief is that the Goddess resides under a Madhavilatha creeper that grows inside the sanctum and spreads all over the temple. There is also a Manikinar, a small well inside the sanctum. This is believed to be connected with the Bharathapuzha, and when the water there rises, the well also fills up, and water floods the sanctum and the whole temple premises. The main festival is Navarathri, and the star Karthika in more the month of Vrischikam is also celebrated. Chuttu vilakku, lighting lamps around the temple, is the main offering.
