Moozhikulangara Bhagavathy Temple

History

Moozhikulangara Bhagavathy Temple is situated at Moozhikulangara, near Neendakara, in the Kottayam district of Kerala. The temple is the presiding spiritual centre of the village and is dedicated to Moozhikulangara Bhagavathy, affectionately known as Pattaramma. A local saying describes her power as “Arapattaramma for a thousand Bhadras,” giving rise to the belief known as Moozhikulangara Muzhupattaramma, which signifies the immense and fierce divine energy of the goddess. Mudiyettu is the most significant and distinctive offering to Pattaramma at this temple. Unlike other temples, Mudiyettu here is performed over an exceptionally long duration, making the Moozhikulangara Mudiyettu festival unique and renowned. This ritual is also conducted in connection more with the Meena Pura festival. Another notable offering is Kottum Chiriyum, which holds special devotional importance. Devotees firmly believe that offering vows to Bhagavathy, particularly Moozhikulangara Amma, helps in recovering lost valuables, with many witnesses attesting to such experiences. Guruthi offerings are regularly performed every Tuesday and Friday. The temple celebrates its annual festival each year with great devotion and traditional fervour.
