Alumthuruthy Bhagavathy Temple is situated on the Thiruvalla-Changanacherry route, near Ezhannjillam Chira, approximately 5 km from Thiruvalla and 28 km from Ambalapuzha. According to the Srimad Bhagavathy, Goddess Durga incarnated as Nanda Nandini to protect Lord Krishna, becoming the guardian deity of the Thiruvalla region. The temple shares close spiritual ties with Thiruvalla Srivallabha Temple, Padappad Devi Temple, and Karunattu Kavil Bhagavathy, with identical iconography depicting the Chakra and Shankha. The annual festival is distinctive for avoiding elephants and fireworks, using a palanquin (Śibika) and a traditional Kerala orchestra instead. The celebrations include ceremonial processions, seven Arattus (holy baths), and culminate in the Ancheeswara Sangamam, symbolising the
more union of five deities, before concluding with rituals and offerings.
