Ayyankovil Sree Dharmashastha Temple is located in Amballur, Ernakulam District, Kerala. The temple’s annual festival is observed on the Uthram Nakshatra day in the Malayalam month of Kumbham. A unique feature of this temple is the installation of Lord Ayyappa along with his consort Prabha on the same peedam within the sanctum sanctorum. This ancient temple was historically associated with the Parukuduthi Menon family, who served the King of Kochi. According to legend, a Paravur Thamburan was killed by the Parukuduthi family and later manifested as a Rakshasa, causing distress to the family and the local people. When his disturbances became unbearable, he was ritually consecrated as
more Suryanarayana on a separate bhimbam within the temple, restoring peace to the region.
