Vilayancode Siva Temple

History

Vilayancode Siva Temple is located at Pilathara in the Kannur district of Kerala. This ancient shrine holds great historical significance in the region and is believed to have been destroyed by Tipu Sultan and his army. Over time, the temple was restored and renovated through the efforts of devoted believers. For many years, the shrine was in a dilapidated state and came to be locally known as Polinjambalam. The temple features a large traditional pond, which plays an important role in temple rituals. Lord Siva is worshipped here in the form of a Shivling, and the utsava murti is ceremonially taken out during major festivals and more special poojas. Following festival celebrations, the Arattu ritual of the utsava murti is performed in the sacred temple pond, adding to the spiritual and cultural significance of the temple.
