This is the only Siva temple in Melur, located in Chengottukavu Panchayath of Koyilandi Taluk, Kozhikode District. Lord Siva with Parvathy Devi is consecrated here. According to historical documents, the area was under the Kurumbranadu royal family. For some time, it was under the Zamorin. The temple was originally under the Puthalath family. It is believed to be around 800 to 900 years old. There is a belief that the temple was under the Nambis, who were Dravidian priests. They came to be considered inferior to Brahmins when the division of the society into four sections came into force. But some of them refused to
more give up their temples. When it was forcibly taken, some of the Nambis were killed. One of them and his wife have been consecrated as Brahmarakshas in this temple. Today, the temple is managed by a committee of devotees. Plans are afoot to complete the renovation by 2027.
