History

Kalpathur Paradevatha Temple, located at Kalpathur near the Perambra–Payyoli Road in Kozhikode (Calicut), Kerala, is a revered temple dating back to the 14th century CE, with a history of over 500 years. Recognised as a protected historical monument, the temple is renowned for its classic Kerala-style architecture and exquisite wood carvings. The temple complex features beautifully crafted structures such as the Padippura (gateway) and Malika (edifice), adorned with intricate depictions of Puranic scenes, including Sree Rama Pattabhishekam. The presiding deity is Vettakkorumakan (Kirathamoorthy), with additional shrines dedicated to Bhagavathy and Ganesha. Surrounded by serene natural beauty, with a canal flowing nearby, the temple offers a peaceful ambience and more a deeply divine atmosphere. The annual Ulsavam is celebrated mainly between February and March. Adequate parking facilities are available for devotees. Visiting the temple at sunrise is a truly blissful experience. While the temple itself is well maintained with the support of the Archaeological Department, some adjacent buildings require better upkeep. Overall, it remains one of the finest and most spiritually uplifting places to visit, reflecting the rich cultural and architectural heritage of Kerala.
