Anjarakandy Paleri Temple

History

This temple is at Anjarakandy, Kannur. Many centuries ago, there was a Kavu at Paleri, one of the five areas of Anjarakandy. Today it has become a Siva temple. It is believed that the place where the temple stands was blessed by the presence of Lord Siva and Parvathy. Worship of Vettaykkorumakan or Kirathamoorthy, the son of Lord Siva used to be held there. Kavu thira, including Kalampattu, dance and Kottiyattam was the most prominent ritual. Gradually the Kavu fell to disuse and all worship stopped. In 1974 the local people formed a committee and conducted a Swarna prashnam (astrological consultation) Then the temple was built more and Siva and Parvathy were consecrated there. Vettaykkorumakan and Kanni Ganapathy are consecrated as subordinate deities. In front of the temple are consecrated Devi, Dharma Shasthav and Nagas. Consecration day in the month of Kumbham, Sivarathri, Thiruvathira in the month of Dhanu and Vishu are celebrated here.
