This temple, also known as Pokkuniyappan Temple, is located in Vadavannur village of Aalathoor Taluka in Palakkad District. This ancient temple is believed to have been consecrated by Lord Parasurama. This is the Aalthoor temple mentioned as one among the 108 consecrated by Parasurama. Lord Siva in the fierce form is consecrated here. It is believed that Parasurama consecrated the Lord in the pond to cool him down. In other temples, the idol is made to face the pond to reduce its power. The idol in the pond was self-originated, and the King of Kollangodu constructed the temple. From the appearance of the
more temple today, it is evident that in the beginning, the temple must have been in the middle of the pond. Later, the pond must have been filled up to give access to the temple.
