Sree Vayathur Kaliyar Temple is located at Vayathur, Ulikkal, about 7 kilometres from Iritty in Kannur district, Kerala. This ancient temple is believed to be over 300 years old and holds deep historical and cultural significance. Although the name may suggest otherwise, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, not Goddess Kali. One of the most remarkable aspects of the temple is its role as a symbol of unity between the Malayali and Kodava communities, who together oversee its administration and traditions. The temple is especially renowned for its 14-day Oottu festival, celebrated annually in January, which attracts devotees from both Kerala and Kodagu, further strengthening the
more longstanding bond between the two communities.
