Kochanakulangara Devi Temple, situated in Kayippuram, Muhamma, Alappuzha, boasts a rich history deeply rooted in local legends and the heritage of the Edappally royal family. Around A.D. 1540, two women from the Edappally royal household migrated to Muhamma following family disputes. The elderly woman married a young man from the Nair family of Kayikkarakkotta, who served as bill collectors for the Edappally kings and had acquired land ownership from them. The younger woman married an Ezhava youth from the Ooralissery family, to whom the king granted 169 acres of land at Aryakkara. Within their Kochanakulangara property, they established a Devi temple, which later became
more known as Kochanakulangara Sree Bhagavathy Temple. In 1936, the family graciously handed over the temple to the local community. Devotees believe that Bhagavathy’s divine presence protects and blesses the people, making the temple a revered spiritual centre in the region.
