Located in the Malappuram district, Sree Annapoorneshwari Devi Temple in Choolattipara is an ancient temple, with its origins believed to date back to the 5th century AD. Originally a Vishnu/Krishna temple, it later became dedicated to Goddess Annapoorneshwari, the divine giver of food and nourishment. A popular legend associated with the temple tells how Goddess Annapoorna taught Lord Siva that food is not an illusion but essential for sustaining life. When she disappeared to prove this, the world fell into famine. Moved by the suffering of all beings, she reappeared in Kashi and fed everyone, including Shiva. Hence, she is worshipped as the Goddess who nourishes all
more living beings.
