Eruva Sree Krishna Swamy Temple, located in Kayamkulam, Alappuzha district, is a temple of great historical and spiritual significance. The original murti worshipped here was a Lakshmi Narasimha Shaligram, brought by a sage who had performed intense penance in the Himalayas. The sage presented the Shaligram to the King of Kayamkulam, guiding him on its consecration and the proper methods of worship. It was believed that as long as the Shaligram was worshipped with devotion and according to prescribed rituals, the Kayamkulam kingdom would remain protected, prosperous, and free from harm. Legends say that Marthanda Varma of Travancore was unable to conquer Kayamkulam in several battles
more due to the divine power of the Shaligram. Later, Ramayyan Dalawa, the commander of Travancore, discovered its significance and, with the help of Thekkemadom Samiyar, secretly took the sacred object to Thiruvarpu Madam in Kottayam, where it continued to be worshipped. Another belief suggests that it was not a Shaligram but a Sri Chakram that was venerated in the temple, and Ramayyan Dalawa, feigning madness, stayed at the temple for 41 days of Bhajana before taking it away.
