Kattumadam Mana, located in
Perumbadappu of Malappuram district, has a rich lineage that dates back to the
time of Sage Parasurama, the legendary creator of Kerala. When Parasurama
brought Nambudiris from outside Kerala and assigned them various
responsibilities in society, the Kattumadam family was entrusted with the duty
of maintaining the mental well-being of the people. Over time, the Kattumadam
Nambudiris gained a reputation for their expertise in Tantra. They were appointed as
Thantriks (chief ritualists) in several temples across Kerala, particularly in
Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Vadakara, Koyilandy, and Thrissur.
