Sree Kunnamthuli Mahavishnu Temple

History

The Sree Kunnamthuli Mahavishnu Temple is a prominent place of worship dedicated to Lord Vishnu, situated on the banks of the sacred Bharathapuzha River at Kaniyampuram, approximately 4 kilometres from Ottapalam in the Palakkad district. The presiding deity, Lord Mahavishnu, is enshrined in a majestic four-armed form, beautifully sculpted from Krishna Shila (black stone), and faces east in accordance with traditional temple architecture. Depicted with a calm blue complexion, Lord Vishnu holds the conch (shankha), discus (chakra), mace (gada), and lotus (padma) in his four hands, and is often envisioned resting on the cosmic serpent Shesha. The temple is a spiritual hub for devotees more who gather throughout the year to participate in rituals and festivals, seeking the blessings of Lord Vishnu. Among its important celebrations is the Installation Day, observed in the Malayalam month of Edavam, which commemorates the consecration of the deity in the sanctum sanctorum and marks the eternal presence of the Lord in the temple.
