Palliyarakkavu Temple in
Mattancherry was the sacred place of worship for the erstwhile Kochi royal
family, dedicated to their family goddess. Located near the Ariyittuvazhcha
Kovil, the traditional venue for the coronation of the Kochi kings, the temple
holds deep historical significance. As part of the coronation ritual, the newly
anointed king would first offer prayers at Palliyarakkavu Temple before
proceeding to the Mattancherry Palace. Upholding this legacy, members of the
Kochi royal family continue to visit the temple on the first day of every
Malayalam month to offer their prayers.
