Kumbalam Thrikkovu Mahadeva Temple

History

Located 8 km south of Ernakulam, the Thrikkovu Mahadeva Temple at Kumbalam is unique in that it houses both Swayambhu and Pratishtha Mahadevan in the same shrine. Lord Kumbalathappan, facing east, blesses devotees with divine grace. The temple follows a rich tradition of five daily poojas and three shivelis, beginning with the early morning irmalyadarshanam. Rituals include sacred anointing with valampuri shankh, adorning the Siva lingam with rudraksha, koovalai garlands, moonstones, and trinetras, followed by various poojas such as Usha Pooja, Etirettu Pooja, Pantheeradi Pooja, Ucha Pooja, and Athazha Pooja. Evening Deeparadhana and thazhaseeveli further enrich the spiritual experience. Sri Rudram chanting, Maharudrajapa, and Maharudrabhishekam more are significant rituals believed to remove grief and obstacles while blessing devotees with peace. Major festivals include Sivaratri and Thiruvatira.
