Situated in Mayyanad, Kollam,
the Umayanalloor Narasimha Kovil is a revered temple dedicated to Lord
Narasimha, the fierce incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Though the exact period of
its construction is uncertain, it is widely believed to date back to the Chera
era, giving it significant historical and cultural importance. The temple is
renowned for its elegant Kerala-style architecture and intricate stone and wood
carvings, especially those adorning the Sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) and the
Namaskaramandapam (prayer hall). The Sreekovil is rectangular with a
distinctive pyramidal roof, reflecting the regional architectural tradition.
The temple complex also includes the Valiyambalam (outer hall), further
highlighting the grandeur and craftsmanship of its design.
