Karippal Nagam Temple Kavu, commonly referred to by this name, is situated near the Karippal Someswari Temple at Karippal, Perumpadavu, in the Kannur district. The temple is dedicated to the serpent deity Kari Nagam. The most significant festival here is the Ayilyam Mahotsavam, celebrated on the Ayilyam star in the month of Dhanu (as per the Malayalam calendar). During this occasion, devotees arrive in large numbers, and special bus services operate from Payyannur, Taliparamba, and nearby towns to facilitate travel. The temple remains open even during non-festival days, with timings from 5:30–10:30 am and 5:00–7:30 pm. Dress codes are simple and modest churidar for women and
more pants for men are permitted, with no strict restrictions, as long as attire is decent. Several important rituals (Vazhipadu) are performed here, including Pushpanjali and Sarppabali. The temple is nestled in a serene, forest-like ambience, surrounded by trees with naturally fallen dry leaves and branches left untouched—retaining the authentic atmosphere of a traditional Sarpakavu (sacred serpent grove). A striking feature of the temple is the snake statue Hundi, considered an architectural marvel. The Karippal Nagam Kavu is one of the rare temples in Malabar where the serpent god, especially Kari Nagam, is worshipped with great devotion.
