History

This temple is at Moothedathu Matambu Amsham, Atakkaaputhoor Desham, Vellinezhi grama Panchayath in Ottapalam of Palakkad District. It comes under the domain of the Pariyanampatta kavu. Around 250 years ago, one branch of the family of Thamme Mootha Panikkar, the preceptors of the Kalari of the Zamorin of Kozhikode, came to Atakkaaputhoor from Thekkum Mala.  Even before that, since AD 1487, they had landed property in Nedunganadu.  A large extent of land and some temples at Karimpuzha, Nelloor and Kulikkiliyaatu belonged to this family of Thamme Panikkar. Sekharapuram Temple is one of them. The temple was managed by Atakkaaputhoor Puthen Madam. The temple is built according to more the architectural pattern of the 15th century. It is only the square sanctum that is so old. The rest of the structure was built a hundred years ago. This is written on the door of the temple.
