Sivapurot Siva Temple

History

This temple is located in Thalassery, Kannur district.  The temple has a rich history associated with Pazhassi Raja and his resistance against the British. While the exact date of construction is unknown, it is believed to be over 2000 years old. It has great architectural value, also. It is known for the murals. The Department of Archaeology protects the temple. After an astrological consultation, the consecration in the Balalaya for the Siva temple to be reconstructed was performed on May 6, 2009. After that, Vishnu was consecrated in a separate sanctum with pujas performed twice a day. Ayyappa is also consecrated in a separate sanctum. Ganapathy more and Bhadrakali are consecrated as subordinate deities. The presence of Nagas has been there for more than 3000 years. Nagaraja and Nagayakshy were consecrated on March 1, 2007. Kalasham after renovation and the erection of the flag post were performed in April- May 2025. Udayasthamana puja is performed on the 30th of every month.
