Anandavalleeswaram Temple is a renowned Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the heart of Kollam Municipal Corporation, just 2.5 km from Kollam Junction Railway Station. Surrounded by various government offices and close to the scenic Ashtamudi Lake, the temple enjoys a serene and accessible setting. The well-known Thirumullavaram Beach is also situated nearby, adding to the temple's appeal. Believed to be over 1100 years old, the temple’s main deity is Lord Shiva, accompanied by his consort, Goddess Parvati. Lord Shiva is worshipped here as ‘Ananda Swaroopan’ (the embodiment of bliss), and Goddess Parvati as ‘Swayamvara Parvathy’. Their blissful divine presence is said to be more the reason behind the temple's name, Anandavalleeswaram, meaning the abode of blissful Shiva and Parvati. Interestingly, while the shrine was originally dedicated solely to Lord Shiva, the idol of Goddess Parvati was consecrated later in the form of Anandavalli. Although her sanctum is located closest to the entrance, tradition dictates that devotees must enter the temple through the door leading to Lord Shiva's sanctum sanctorum. This ancient temple stands as a spiritual and cultural landmark in Kollam, attracting devotees and visitors seeking divine blessings and inner peace.
