The temple is at Nellikunnu three km to the east of Trichur. It is believed and astrologically revealed that the deity has been installed centuries ago and worshipped by sages. The temple is dedicated to Lord Dhanwantari, an incarnation of Maha Vishnu. According to Puranas, Dhanwantari Murthy came up with the pot of elixir when the Milky Ocean was churned by the Gods and the Asuras. Dhanwantiri is considered the deity of Ayurveda and is believed to have the power to eradicate diseases and provide sound health. Apart from the main deity, Lord Sastha with his wife Prabhavathy and the son Satyaka is worshipped here. The
more other deities here are Lord Ganesha, Goddess Vanadurga and Nagaraja. Formerly it was the family deity of the Ashtavaidya family of Parappur Moos. Later it was merged with the Ashtavaidya family of Thykkatu Moos.
