This temple is situated in the village of Peringala,
5km away from Chenganoor. It is situated in the middle of 18 hills. It is customary for the devotees to recite
the prayer ‘Om namah shivaaya’ 108 times before entering the temple. The
original idol is traditionally consecrated as Maha Shivalingam and is considered very
powerful. A unique feature seen here is that the rays of the sun will fall
directly on the idol during the pantheeradi puja. Thulasi (Basil) leaves are
not used here for puja. Under the banyan tree in the temple, the Lord is
consecrated as the fierce Malayachan. Devotees believe that
more
if one prays aloud
here and offers thaamboolam (betel leaves), toddy, and varapod, the prayers will
be answered before one gets down the hill.
