Situated in Swamipadi, Elamakkara, in Ernakulam
district, Sree Mullaikkal Devi Temple is a family temple dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy.
Alongside the main deity, idols of Serpents (Nagas) and Lord Ganapathy are also
consecrated. According to legend, the Bhagavathy was originally worshipped by a
Namboothiri illam (household) in ancient times. When that family declined in
virtue and devotion, the Goddess is believed to have left their home in search
of a more suitable place. However, even in her next abode, she remained
unsettled and eventually chose to manifest at the current location. Her
presence was first revealed in 1972, when she is said to have spiritually

in a family member, beginning on the star Uthram in the
Malayalam month of Kumbham. This divine presence continued for two and a half
years. In 1975, the idol of Bhagavathy was formally consecrated in the temple
by the Thanthri from the Puliyanoor Illam. Initially, the Goddess and the
Serpents were consecrated within the same sanctum. During a later renovation,
however, separate sanctums were constructed for them.
