Located in Elamakkara, Ernakulam district, the
Puthukulangara Durga Devi Temple has a unique history. For many years, the idol
of the Goddess was housed within the premises of the Janmabhoomi newspaper
office. However, astrological consultations revealed that the Goddess was
displeased with the surroundings. Following this, a suitable plot of land was
acquired, and the present temple was constructed to offer Her a proper abode.
The temple's Thanthri (chief priest) hails from the Puliyanoor Illam, a
respected lineage. Initially, poojas were conducted only once a month, a practice that continued for over 40 years. Today, the temple is open for daily
worship both in the
more
morning and evening. The temple is under the management of
the Kerala state headquarters of the RSS Karyalayam, which is located on the
same premises.
