According to tradition, the temple is believed to have been established on the first day of Kali Yuga, over 5,000 years ago, making it one of the oldest Sastha temples in the region. The presiding deity is Swayambhu Bala Sastha, meaning the idol is self-manifested and represents the youthful form of Lord Sastha. The temple holds significant importance as one of the 108 Sastha temples in Kerala. A unique feature of this temple is that the Sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) is open to more the sky, with no roof above the deity, adding to its spiritual aura and uniqueness.
