This temple is at Mannur in Palakkad district. According to what has been revealed through astrological consultations, Mannur, a wasteland, was chosen for a yaga to save the land and the people from drought and other calamities. The yaga was performed under the leadership of a great ascetic. After the yaga, the Lord was pleased, and when the shed where the yaga was held was set on fire, she ent rain to put out the fire. The place where the shed for the yaga stood became a pond, and Lord Siva with Parvathy Devi appeared there and blessed the people. Later, people came to live there
more and they built the temple there. The temple came to be known as the Kandamangalam temple. The place where the pond was formed is still there, known as Kaithakulam. Later, the temple fell into ruins because of the differences of opinion among those who controlled it. For the last thirty-seven years, the temple, which was under the Mannur Swaroopam, has been put under the Malabar Devaswam Board.
