This temple is near Ayurveda College,
Kadannapally Road, Pariyaram Medical College P.O, Kannur. It is believed to be
thousands of years old. The place had been lying overgrown with vegetation for
centuries. Then a worker found a stream of water and a Jyothirlingam in it and
informed an ascetic, sitting in penance near that, about it. This Maharshi
understood the significance of the discovery and gave the leadership in the
construction of the temple there. The idol is still standing in water in the
sanctum. This Maharshi is believed to have attained salvation in that compound
and even today a lamp is lighted at the
more
spot where his remains were
cremated. Even in ancient times, the
lower caste people were given a special place in the rituals of the temple.
They bring the spikes of paddy for the Nira in the month of Karkadakam. They
were allotted land for their stay and agriculture.
