History

Kizhakke Kovilakam Vaka Vennayur Sree Subrahmanya Swamy Temple is an ancient and revered Murugan temple located at Vennayur, Chelembra in the Malappuram district of Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Lord Subrahmanya (Murugan), who is worshipped here as the main deity. It is situated approximately 4.5 kilometres from Ferok railway station. According to legend, after vanquishing the demon Darakasura, Lord Subrahmanya arrived at this sacred spot to meet Lord Siva and Goddess Parvati. It is also believed that Surapadma attained salvation here, being transformed into a peacock the divine mount of Lord Subrahmanya. Worshipped in his Sarvabhishtadayaka form, the Lord is known to grant the heartfelt wishes more of devotees. The temple is currently under the administration of the Kizhakke Kovilakam Trust.
