Koduvayur Viswanatha Swamy
Temple, situated in Koduvayur, Palakkad District, Kerala, is a centuries-old
shrine dedicated to Lord Siva. With a history spanning over 700 years, the
temple holds great cultural and spiritual significance. According to legend,
Venkatarama Iyer and Lakshmi Ammal of Kollengode brought the sacred Shivling
from Kashi and built the temple to enshrine it. The main sanctum (sreekovil) of
Lord Viswanatha faces east, while the sanctum of Goddess Meenakshi faces south.
The temple rituals are conducted in the traditional Tamil Shaiva style, and the
priests, known as Tamil Gurukkals, uphold these ancient customs.
